WHY LOVE AND FORGIVENESS MUST WIN IN THE END
Veteran listeners of my weekly talk show know that at the top of the hour, I comment on various issues involving the law, politics and the human condition. Vigorously and with truth, I give my two cents on these issues hoping that the commentary is worth something at least approximating that sum. More often than not, with the use of sound logic, facts and reasoning, you have heard me combating the Radical Right’s plot to transform the world into a secular bastion of arrested development. Occasionally, you have also heard me thank and praise the haters for their contribution to my success. By way of digression, I would encourage all moderates and liberals alike to realize the importance of being aware of those who are not our supporters. As my Aunt Bertha used to say, “you’s either wit me or agin me. And you can’t be both. You’s one or da utter. Na which one is you”?
Whether you’s one or da utter, I am suggesting that at some point in your life, it would be helpful to forgive all those ignobles who have impugned your collective common senses and trespassed upon your notions of decency and fair play. With that said, I would like to take the following opportunity to forgive all the ignobles of the world for the following behavior:
I forgive the radical right for thinking and saying publicly that if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, were alive, he would oppose affirmative action. This rhetoric is based not on any facts, evidence or logic. Instead, support for this silliness is based on King’s signature phrase.....”judge me not by the color of my skin, but by the content of my character.” This conclusion is as far reaching as it is ridiculous, but nevertheless, I forgive you, the secular Radical Wrong.
I forgive the radical right law makers who have passed legislation in several states making it legal to take DNA from all those who are not yet convicted of any wrong doing, but only are arrested and accused of committing a felony. Afros and cornrolls, beware.
I forgive the radical right law makers in Florida who have passed legislation allowing citizens to pull out guns in public and shoot anybody they feel threatened by.
I forgive the radical right puppet Rev. Manning for saying that Barack Obama is trash simply because his mother is white and his father is Black. Tiger Woods, look out.
I forgive Rev. Jeremiah Wright for his racially divisive and incendiary comments- even if he truly meant well, his statements are analogous to yelling “FIRE” in a crowded theater.
I truly forgive all those who are opposed to prayer in school but have no objection to the inscription “IN GOD WE TRUST’ on the face of United States currency.
I forgive all the courts and legal systems in this country who have sent thousands of people to prison for crimes they did not commit. Amen Innocence project.
